Electric arc furnace course held in Argentina

The 2nd International Short Course on Electric Arc Furnace was held at the Plaza Real Suites Hotel, Rosario, Argentina, from 29-30 March 2011. Organized by consulting and training company Metallon, the event was attended by steelmakers and foundrymen from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Uruguay and Venezuela. Issues including metallics and other raw materials, furnace types, equipment, melting, metallurgy, tapping, process control, simulation, recycling and the environment were all discussed during the course. Lectures were given by Jorge Madias and Francisco Torre; a presentation was also given by Ernesto Rheinboldt. The event was sponsored by Andina Group, a producer of ferroalloys and calcium carbide with plants in Argentina, Brazil, South Africa and the UK, and by UK Carbon & Graphite, a producer of electrodes for the steel industry.
