Algoma Steel Awards Building Contract to Walters Group

Algoma Steel Group Inc. (“Algoma”), a leading Canadian producer of hot and cold rolled steel sheet and plate products, today announced that it has awarded the structural building contract for its electric arc steelmaking facility (“EAF”) to Hamilton, ON-based Walters Group Inc. (“Walters”).

NIM Group to Acquire Plateplus Plant in Okla

NIM Group, one of the nation’s largest family-owned networks of steel service centers, announced today that NIM Group has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Plateplus, Inc.’s Tulsa, Oklahoma facility. The transaction is expected to close on April 29, 2022.

Nucor to Build New Rebar Micro Mill in North Carolina

Nucor Corporation announced that it will build a new rebar micro mill in Lexington, North Carolina, which is located in Davidson County. This will be Nucor's third rebar micro mill, joining existing Nucor micro mills in Missouri and Florida. The Nucor Steel Lexington mill is expected to cost approximately $350 million and have an annual capacity of 430,000 tons.

The Corpus Christi facility, which covers an area of two square kilometers and employs over 270 people, is located in an optimal coastal position with direct access to a broad and deep shipping channel which enables cost effective transportation to the Americas and Europe. It incorporates best-in-class technology and equipment supplied by MIDREX Technologies Inc., a leading supplier of DRI solutions.

SMS group to Supply New Melt Shop to Nucor Steel West Virginia

Nucor Steel has awarded SMS group, Inc. the contract to supply a complete melt shop for the new facility to be built in Mason County, West Virginia. The scope includes two 190 metric ton direct current electric arc furnaces (DC EAF), two twin ladle furnaces, and two vacuum tank car degasser facilities.

Austal USA Celebrates Opening of Steel Facility

Austal USA hosted a curtain drop ceremony today to celebrate the opening of the company’s state-of-the-art steel facility in front of over two hundred guests, including representatives from the U.S. Navy, Coast Guard, federal, state and local government, and the Embassy of Australia.
